  • H4 Stamping - Documents!!

    Hi,

My wife is going for her H4 stamping on the 30th, and I am here in the US.
Can anybody tell if I need to send her my original I797?

I thought only a copy is good enough but chennai consulate website, in their guidelines secton shows that she needs to have the original.

    Thank you

For stamping, better carry the original. I've gone through some instances where a copy was not a problem (especially with PMIS, they can verify the authenticity by looking it up) but you can never know.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

      Thanks for the reply,

Forgot to mention earlier, another section of the consulate website says that u can bring a copy of my I797.

As far as I know, I should keep I797 with me when I am in the US which is proof of my legal working status even though I have a valid visa.

Can anybody tell their personal experiences?

      Thank you

Not true. I797 is an employer document. All you need as an alien is your I-94 with your Passport while in the US to prove your status.
