F1 to Hi stamping in Mumbai

I was on F1 visa for an MPH. I got into residency and the hospital is sponsoring my H1B. My question is: Would there be any problem in stamping my H1 in Mumbai (in May) before I start my residency. Most of my friends are advising me to start the residency nd go for H1 stamping in December

In reality, it does not matter if you go before or after starting the residency as it is a H1b which allows dual intent. If you go by the books, it is much better as you have returned to your home country as required by a F1 visa holder and now you are trying for a dual intent visa like H1b.

Common practice followed by people is what you have been told to follow by your friends.
