am i out of status? new visa

i received my H1-B approval while working under practical training status in the states.

my Employment Authorization Card expired 09/27/00.
my H1-B is valid from 10/01/2000.
my student F-1 visa expires in 2001 but my I-20 has already expired.

have i ever been out of status? can i still go to vancouver to get a new visa or i have to go back home to get it?

i appreciate for any help.
