  • H1B transfer and extension

    Hi,
I have my current H1B valid through Jan 15th 2009 and I can file an extension for three more years. I now want to transfer my H1B to another company.

    1) how much time does a regular H1B transfer takes?
    2) When we file for a transfer does my H1B get extended for next 3 years?
3)If it doesn't get extended, when should I file for an extension? Can I file for an extension through my new company without getting the H1B transfer approval?

what should I do in this case?

    Thanks,
    Arun

    1. 2-6 months
    2. Depends on how much time the company requests in it's LCA.
    3. You can get as many extensions till the 6 years are complete. I'm not sure I understand the second part of your question. Each H1b petition is independent.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
