Urgent : Expired I-94 due to Passport Expiration

I am on H-1 visa valid till 06/2001. When I entered USA in
March 00, my passport was expiring on Aug 30 2000, so the
immigration stamped validity of my stay in US to Aug 30 '00.
I got my passport extended till 2010 at Indian Consulte in NewYork. But I did not remember that my I-94 is not valid till yesterday.
Am I Out of Status since Aug 30? I have with me the I-94(bottom portion of H-1B(797))which states my validity till
06/2001. Can I use this I-94 for staying legaly in this country. Also, I am going to India in October for consulate processing. Will this cause any problems. Please advice.
I am really worried about my status.

If you had two I-94s, you should have submitted both at the airport before leaving.

You are not out of status as your visa does not expire until next year.

No problem in CP because of that.

How is pkr5670 not out of status after Aug 30 2000
when his I-94 (latest) expired on Aug 30 2000?

I thought stay in US is determined by date on I-94
and not by Visa validity. Is this not right?

Please respond because I am sure there are many
like this who are not aware of this.
