help L1 to H1B transfer

Hi,
I am new to the country and came on L1 visa with company A and now the same company has filed my H1 visa which has been approved. Please could you tell me if I need to go back to India to get my H1 stamped or is the transfer done automatically. I plan to change my company after dec'08. So if I don't go back to India to get visa stamped will that be a hinderance for job change. Please help me.

Nothing needed if the H1b was a COS. No issues with transfer as well in the future.
