  • Docs for H1 visa at the port of entry

    Hi,

I am going to travel to the US on H1-visa and visa is approved till 2010.
And my consultant gave the original I-797 when I went for the Visa interview and subsequently took it back after my interview was over and stamping was done.

Now, he is asking me to travel with the copy of the I-797 only saying it's not necessary to show the original I-797 at the port of entry.

I don't know why he is refusing to send the original I-797 to me, but insists that I can get away with the copy at the port of entry.

I would like to know what are the mandatory documents one needs to show at the port of entry and if I can travel with just the copy of the I-797 besides other documents. Can someone please share your thoughts?

Thanks and I'd appreciate your help.

For a first time entry, it is better to have the original I797 to avoid unnecessary problems. Your employer seems to be a jerk to start with.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
