L1 to H1 with cos and L1 extension

My L1 to H1 is approved with COS. I want to continue with L1. What if my L1 employer is applying for an extension. when can they apply for extension. will I face any issues. I cannot dare to explain the situation to L1 employer

L1 Petition expires in Dec. Extension is not yet applied. If at all L1 company has to apply then when is the right time to superseed H1 COS that got approved this year.

What is the Risk?
Should the transfer be initiated before or after oct 1st?
What documents should I get from H1 employer?
