Hi,

My name is rishi and I am currently On H1-B status, i am planning to apply for Dependent visa for my wife. Can any body tell me is Birth Certificate Compulsary. My certificate is lost, so can anybody let me know whether affidavit as an secondary evidence of birth is ok, because my school leaving has a wrong birth date too..

Also I am confused when i was reading the requirements, am I THE PRINCIPAL APPLICANT. Do i need to fill up the DS-156 and 157 for me and my wife both.

Hi Rishi,

I never heard VO asking for Birth Certificate of the Principal Applicant i.e YOU for their dependents H4 Visa.
They will ask for the ORIGINAL Marriage Certificate and wedding photos.

But still your passport should contain the DOB - and you need to give photcopy of all the pages of it.
If your wife is only going for the Interview - then DS-156 and DS-157 is required only for your Wife.
