  • H1B quitting what happens to assets?

I am a Canadian working on an H1B visa in the US and want to quit my job and return to Canada. I have an I-94 that is valid through 2010. My question is what happens with my US assets when I leave?

    - social security
    - 401k
    - bank accounts / credit cards

Do I need to notify the social security office that I am leaving? Is there any issue with me keeping these assets after I move back?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joseph

You can leave them as is if you want to. As far as social security goes, you will get any retirement benefits if you have accumulated the required credits (40??) over the period of past 10 years.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
