  • H1b stamping

    Hello All,

I am on H1B working for a large company in the US. My wife came with me on H4 in June '06. Before she entered US, a H1B petition was filed for her in May '06 when we were in India. We received her H1B approval in Sept '06. The approval (I797) is valid until Sept. 09. Now she want to start work.

Does she have to have H1b stamp on her passport for starting work. Or she can apply for SSN based on I797 and can start work. I mean we need stamping if we are traveling to some another country only ?

    Thanks in advance.

      H4 to H1B

i came as an H4 visa valid for one year. I was sponsored by an orgnization and I was approved for an H1b visa. My concern is that my H4 visa has expired and I only have my new I-94. Do i need to have a new visa for the H1b or as long as I have my I-94 I am ok to travel outside the US?

Your I-94 is valid as long as it says on it. Travel and re-entry into US always needs a valid visa.

She either needs to get a H1b stamp or have the employer file for an amendment to change her status. Read through similar posts on the forum.
