L1 to H1 Transfer

Hi,

I currently have both H1 and L1. My H1 is still not active as my employer has not generated my salary. And as I am not getting a job with the current market condition, I am continuing to work on L1 untill I get one. But my question is how long I can do it till? Is there a time limit to switch across to H1 visa?If I get a job in Jan or March next year, would my H1 be still valid?

H1 gets activated by USCIS, not by applying for SSN or employer generating salary. Your H1b is active from Oct 1st if the COS was approved and your employer MUST pay you.

Working on L1 is illegal and unauthorized even for a single day past the COS approval. You have been violating the law. Contact an attorney.

Since the person has already accumulated an illegal status in the US, when he contacts an attorney, how / what way can the attorney help him ?

Also, apprx. what could be the fees that the attorney will charge ?
