When to apply for H1 extension?

Hi,
This is my situation.

My current H1 has expiry date sometime in Sept 2009. I am planning to visit India coming summer during May/June 2009. Since my visa stamp is already expired, I must get new stamping before entering US again.

1. Is it good idea to get my H1 renewed here before going to India? or is that OK to go for stamping with only approx 3 months left on the petition? (My total 6 year H1 period is until 2011).

2. If at all renewal is recommended, how soon I need to apply? How much time it will take for extension?

---- Yes, you should get your H1 renewed before traveling overseas, unless there is some genuine emergency

2. If at all renewal is recommended, how soon I need to apply? How much time it will take for extension?

---- You can apply for H1 renewal 6 months in advance and normal processing takes 3-4 months. PP takes about 2-3 weeks. Based on these indicators you cna make your decision
