  • H1b Lay off

I have recvd a notice from my employer about being laid off. My last day of work:feb 15 2009. I have a chemical background. If i need to to go thru a consultant to do my H1 transfer, I will be changing to the IT field. IS it possible? How easy or difficult is this? Is there any risk involved in this? Also, since I do not want to go out of status, I am considering applying for Change of status to B1. Would it be appropriate? How much time does it take for COS to take effect? Is there any other way to get a new H1 or stay in status?

USCIS has been strict about approving H1b transfers for consulting companies that promise a job for anyone with any background. Caveat Emptor!

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
