H4 - H1 - H4 : Please help

Hi,

My husband is on H1 and he came to USA in Jan 2008. I came with him on a H4 visa.

In April 2008, i applied for a H1 through a consultant and got H1 approval in Oct 2008 while in US.

I benched from Oct 2008 to Dec 2008 but i got the paystubs for two months.

We went to india on vacation in Dec 2008 and came back in Jan 2009. I got my H1 Visa stamped this time.

Now my consultant says that finding a project is difficult is in economic environment and i should go back to my H4 status.

So i have following questions:
1. In case my employer terminates me, do i go to H4 status automatically ?
2.. If i do need to apply for H1-H4 COS, what all do i need ? Will i need paystubs for January and February ?
2. If i get a job later with some other employer, what will be the process to re-instate my H1 ? How much will be the H1 fees ?

Please help me out.
