Lay off, cos

Just got laid off...last paystub:28th feb 09. Wanted to apply for a COS to B1/B2. My H1 B is expiring on march 31st. My employer wont revoke it.
- If I apply for B1/B2, how much time does it take for the new status to be effective?
- Are their any chances of rejection?
- If my B1 gets rejected, will it affect my H1 application/transfer?

B1 in US?

Hi RVW,
I am not sure if you can apply for a B1/B2 visa while in US itself. Also, you need someone/some company to sponsor it, unless you can show evidence that you are capable of funding your own holiday and then you intend to go back to India.

B1/B2 is only for temporary business (not work) or holiday.

I found that you can apply for a change of status from one non immigrant status to another. In this case I have to apply for either a B1 or H1 transfer so that I do not go out of status. Do u have any idea how long it takes to transfer to B1?
