Change of status H4 to H1B

I am currently on H4 and I'm planning to apply for H1B this year. I have a question regrading COS

If my H1B is denied, can I continue to be on H4 ? Or would I be considered out of status ?

You continue to remain on H4 if the H4 I-94 is valid in the event of a H1b denial of COS.
