Visa validity without payroll for h1b

It's been 2 months now I am here in US on H-1B, my employer did not start my payroll. I am wondering how long I can be on bench searching for job with out a payroll?
And how long will my H-1 visa valid? I got it stamped it in Oct 2008.

Please reply me at the earliest.

You are already out of status. Look up WH4 form and complain. Your employer needs to pay you for every single day.
