H1B Visa Availability

Hi. I'm a Mechanical Engineer from the UK. I've been a slow-mover but I now have job offers in the US who want me to start ASAP. I was just wondering if it was still possible for me to apply for an H1B visa this year? Is there still availability? What would i need to do?

Also, this would allow me to start 1st October 2009 and not before is this correct?

The visa quota is slill open and they need to file ASAP. You can start on or after Oct 1st provided the petition and visa are approved.
