H1 Transfer

Hi,
My petition is valid until Sep 2009. Since current project has been extended, planning to extend H1B with current employer.
My concern is, since many cases of extension are rejected, can I apply for H1B transfer with another employer?
Does H1B transfer impact the extension of current visa?

--- You are good to apply for a transfer irrespective of your current status expiring in Sep 2009. This is a big misconception that just because "many other" H1B extensions are rejected, yours will be rejected too.
