  • How can a H1 dependent (H4) do a job?

    Hello,
I have got H1 approved this year but my wife doesn't have one.
    1. My employer didn't file for her H1 saying she doesn't have much experience in IT (she is BSC+MBA** yr IT exp). Is this correct?
    2. In case she travels with me on H4 and doesn't get H1 next year (God forbid but just in case) then what are the other ways she can get a job there?

    Thanks!

    1. Maybe. That employer is just not offering a job.
    2. She can find another employer who can give a job and sponsor H1.

None. She cannot work in H4.

Your wife may want to explore F-1 study to work under CPT/OPT. An H-4 to F-1 change of status can be tricky because USCIS may suspect your wife is just trying to get around the system b/c she has H-4 and could go to school. However, this "can" be done in certain cases.
