  • H1-B stamping, which consulate to go to

    Hi,

I entered the US in Aug 2006 on F-1 visa. I started working in June 08 on OPT, and my H1-B was approved starting October 09. I intend to travel to India in a few weeks to get the H1-B visa stamped, and had the following questions about which consulate I should go to.

My passport has an Ahmedabad (Mumbai consular district) address, and my F-1 interview was at Mumbai too. My parents have since moved to Kerala (Chennai consular district), so my current address in India is of Kerala. Though the last state in India I stayed for 6 months is still Gujarat.

    Questions are:
    1. Should I be scheduling my interview at Chennai or Mumbai consulate? Can I schedule at either or do I strictly have to do it at a certain one?

    2. While creating the application on the vfs site, do I select 'Resident of India', or 'Citizen of India resident in the USA' ?

Appreciate any responses.. Thanks a ton!!

You can select either option in resident of India/abroad.
If you select abroad you can select any consulate of your choice. If you select resident of India and state Kerala, you will have to go to Chennai.
    Anything is fine.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.
