Current passport or New passport number to use when paying fee in HDFC bank

My passport is expiring in September, 2010. I got the New Passport also.

What passport number should I use when I pay fee in the HDFC bank?

And I will go for stamping in Feb, 2010. When I applying for visa appointment, should I use the current passport number or the new passport number?

Why would you want to use the old passport number when you already have a new one?

Because my old passport will expire only on September, 2010. So can I use new passport number before expiring old passport?

when is your new passport valid from?
It doesn't matter when your old passport expires.

Whenever you renew your passport, the old one will be stamped void. So there is no point in using it anymore. Moreover the one that will be used for stamping will be the new passport (In Feb).
