  • H1-B and H4 visa with blank surname

    Hi,
    IAm Jitu.
Iam completely stuck with an issue. In my passport, surname field is blank.
My husband has got a H1-B visa, and he will be doing his stamping in January.
When we enquired, it was told that for dependent visa, surname field is NON-mandatory. Hence, we planned NOT to change it and get it stamped.
Now, I have received a H1-B visa initiation request from my current employer.
And, for this, I will have to change my surname.
Now, If I get my dependent stamping done for the existing passport, and then change the surname in the passport later, will by dependent stamping be still valid?
Can anyone please help me with this..

Yes, the stamping would be valid, and you have to carry two passports always.

But it's ALWAYS better to get name corrected and go for stamping.
Your name on the visa will be used for all purposes (like Tax ID number) in USA.
