Advisory on H1 Visa Transfer

I just got my H1 in Oct 2004. If I have a offer for employment from other employer, Do I need to notify my current my intentions or I can keep that in secret until INS approval or rejection?

I am afraid to tell my current employer, because in case of INS rejection I would be in an embarrasing situation.

I would like to have feedback from experienced H1 transfers
