There have been a couple of incidents in the near past in New York and New Jersey POE related to this. I am not sure if this is still a problem. One of my friend recently entered through LA even though his project is at VA and he had no issues at the POE.

But there were few posts suggesting that one should enter through POE that is close to your employer.

Also, i came across a few articles about port of entry denial - is it a practice to enter from the port which is closest to location of your project?

As, i live on the East coast and my wife's project is starting on the West coast - Will it be better for her to enter through SFO while coming back from India?

well i'll try to minimize all the risks, now she is going to Delhi for her stamping and will be coming thru SFO.
