I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I posted my question on another board, but no one responded, perhaps because I was thinking about the wrong kind of visa for my fiance. Anyway, if someone could provide me with a glimmer of information, I would be extremely grateful.
Here is the situation:
I am an American citizen with a B.A., degree from a University in the US. I currently work full time at a NGO. My fiance would like to move to the US after he finishes his equivalent of a B.A. from a University in the UK. He is a UK citizen. We have been together for 2 1/2 years when I studied abroad in the UK, met him and fell in love. Since then we have traveled back and forth visiting each other. We have been engaged for about a month. We would like to get married summer 2011 so a fiance visa will not work for us.
My fiance would like to move here come September 2010 in order to work as a teacher's associate (or teacher trainee). The school is an urban, minority populated school, which is in need of quality dedicated teachers and teaching assistants, which aren't scared off by troubled kids and low pay. He already has somewhat of a job lined up, through the school he worked at last summer as a staff assistant/ intern on a summer j-1 visa. When I say "somewhat" they have verbally offered him a job, but nothing is in writing yet.
I know it is a lot to ask, but does anyone think that this type of a job can get him a H1-B visa? Is it worth asking his former employer if they would sponsor him? Or are we barking up the wrong tree? If not H1-B visa, what other visas do you think we can apply for to get my fiance into this country?
