H1 Status Question

Hi All,

I came to US in May 2004 and in Nov 2004 I transferred my H1B to a different company (x)and worked for almost 4 years. In April 2008 due to some issues i transferred by H1B to a different company (y) and i got my I797 valid through April 2011. Due to emergency i went to india in Nov 2008 and while coming back at port of entry i used x companys I797 instead of y companys I797 and I got I94 valid till May 2010.

I heard there is a new rule came in where in i have to leave n reenter using the new I797 or go for stamping.

So iam planning to go to Mexico (matamoros) for stamping. Is it ok going for stamping to mexico? or shall i go to india for stamping?
