Travelling outside US during H1-B processing!

Hi,

I am a student on F1 visa. I got a job recently and the company is processing my H1-B. I want to know if I can travel outside US while my H1 is being processed? If I am allowed to travel is there any procedure that needs to be followed in order to do so? I have talked to many people and got conflicting answers.
