BATCH ID - Clarification needed

Hi All,
When VO issue 221(G) Pink or Blue or White, is the no written on the 221(g) form is the BATCH ID??
Can we track progress of the case using that BATCH ID??
Will the Chennai or Delhi VISA office call center will let you know BATCH ID, if you give them the Passport No??

Any information in detailed is useful.
