  • Travel when H1B is under processing

Hi. I am currently on H4 visa which is valid through September 2012. I am planning to apply for H1B this year. Will i be able to travel to India when my H1B is under processing (I will be having a valid H4 visa stamp on my passport).?

Also what is the difference between "H1B is approved" and "COS is applied"??

    Thanks for your help!

There should not be a problem.

H1b approved means when you are filing for the fresh h1b and it gets approved.

COS applied means when you are already in US and changing the status from H1 to H4 or H4 to h1 etc.

If your H1B is applied as a COS, then travelling outside the country during the processing stage will deny your COS. If the H1B is applied as Consular process, then there is no problem. However, you will need to get the H1B stamped and re-enter if it is a consular process.
