My friend had a h1b visa stamped till 31st Dec 2018 from Company A. He accepted an offer from other firm Company B and they began h1b transfer in May 2018. He traveled to India in June 2018 with the old visa and while he was in India he got his new h1b visa from Company B approved till 2021. (did not had new visa approval in hand when he traveled back to USA, as he would get it after he joins new firm)
Now in June end, he came back to US with his old visa and old approval notice and resigned from the company to start with the new company. His I94 was stamped and valid till 31st Dec 2018.
Now after an year, the new company says that he seems out of status as his I94 was expired in 31st Dec 2018 and he needs to contact CBP office to update his new I94 which is valid till 2021.
If you have faced such similar situation, please advise if CBP would easily update I94 or are there any options.
Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks
