Travel to India when amendment is in progress

I have valid H-1B petition (visa and and I-94) until April 2022.
I am in USA right now.
My Company has initiated amendment for a different location and client this month and it will most likely be many months before a decision is reached on the amendment.
I have started working for the new client based on the receipt number. Can I technically leave USA for a vacation to India (when the Covid situation improves - but that's a different issue altogether) and be back to USA while my amendment is in progress?

It would be very risky for you to travel while an amendment is in process. I would wait till you receive the I-797 approval.
