Visa appointment query

I have a question regarding scheduling appointment for visa. My passport expires on Jan 2nd 2011 and I'm planning to schedule appointment in the second week of August. Do you recommend me to renew my passport first and then schedule appointment ? Also I'm Hyderabad is it ok to attend any other consulate or do I need to attend Hyderabad itself? Does it matter where you are from and where you are attending the interview ?

If you're not in hurry, you can apply for new passport and then go for visa.

Yes, you need to attend only in Hyd.

@sk4ih thanks for your response, but There is a small glitch in renewing my passport my H1 petition has been approved on the present passport which is due to expire in 6 months... so is it better to apply for reissue so that i can appear for the visa interview with the present passport and carry the new passport after i get it ?

H1 petition has nothing to do with your passport.
