Lost H4 Approval Notice and working on visa extension process

Hello,

We have lost the H4 approval notice for my wife. My employer attorney is asking for I539 (H4 approval notice) in order to proceed with the extension process.

Is this the mandatory document for the extension?
If yes, then do you know how much time it takes to get the duplicate copy?

Note: This is the first time we are applying for H4 extension.

Answer: Of course yes. In order to extend your current Non immigrant visa, you will need to show current non immigrant visa status documents. But, There is having some options too. If you dont have approval notice, you can go ahead with receipt notice along with USCIS case status screen shot showing the concern receipt number is under approval notification.
If yes, then do you know how much time it takes to get the duplicate copy?
Answer: Duplicate copy of approval notice will surely take long time. I would say, minimum 2 months.
