H1 to K1?

Hi,

I am on an H1 visa and going out of status in October. My girlfriend is a US citizen. We are planning to get engaged soon. I was wondering if I can apply for a K1 (fiance) visa while here in US? If not, is it easy to change status from H1 to B1/B2 ?

If not, is it easy to change status from H1 to B1/B2 ?

If you have intention of changing the status from B1/B2 back to H1B later, then it is not advisable. A COS from B1/B2 to H1B will raise a lot of questions when you go for visa stamping later.
