Hope this email finds you well. I was stuck in the PRESENT OCCUPATION section of the DS-160 form. You see, I have been working in an informal capacity on a research project under a professor at the University of Hyderabad for the last one year. So, what do I say for my present occupation in the DS-160 ? Do I say NOT EMPLOYED ? If so, then what do I give as an explanation ? Or do I say something else like RESEARCH, COMPUTER SCIENCE or OTHER ? Please note that there is no formal contract of employment in this case, although I can get a letter from my supervisor accounting for my activities over the last year, and no pay for the whole project.
