  • H1B Extension Visa Stamping, Tijuana

    Hello!

I am planning on going for my H1B visa stamping in Tijuana, MX on Sept 9th. I have a few questions and would really appreciate if any of you guys can clear my doubts -

    1. Do I need a Mexico Visaor permit to get my Visa stamped in Tijuana? If "Yes", could you let me know what the process is? I stay in SFO.
    2. How easy or difficult is the stamping process in Tijuana? Any tips, feedback or suggestions? Please advise.

    Thanks is advance,
    JK

I had done the same in 2006. Going by the book, Yes, you will need a visa to enter Mexico. With my friends suggestion that the officials do not check, I took the risk of going there without a visa. since I reside in San Diego, I took the Metro to the border train station. Walked accross the border, got on a taxi cab to the Consulate. There is a bank across the consulate where you should pay the visa fee. I stood in a line to get inside the consulate. After my interview, there was a waiting area (Outdoors) where you should stay to get your passport. I got my passport back around 3:30 PM.

I was able to take the risk because I was single. So your decision should consider that aspect as well. Being stranded in a third country with wife and kid is not ideal. I am not sure how easy it is to get a Mexican visa, but if you plan ahead of time, it should not be a problem.
