Visa Status - Administrative Processing

hi,

I dropped off the visa documents in the VFS dropbox location in India. Few days later i checked the status on CEAC website "https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx" and the status is showing as Administrative Processing. Any idea what could be the reason and what are the next steps forward. I am accompanied with my kid (US citizen) and I was planning to return to US in few weeks. I also submitted NIE request letter to them.

Hi,
If you see status as Administrative processing then your request under process. Embassy/consulate will do some back ground verification/ Security verification or documents verification. So, this kind of status is very normal and hope you will get status soon.

Thanks for the reply. It has been 3 weeks since the status was updated to Administrative Processing but no change yet. Any idea how long it usually takes.
Can someone please share their experience(s). Trying to understand the usual turn around time in similar situations.

Hi,
Unfortunately, there is no time frame for Administrative processing case. Embassy/ consulate will take action once they done their portion of verification. Some people will get the update within a month but some status change will take many months.

thanks. I received the email for Passport pick up and the Visa is approved. In total it took 4 weeks.
