Working without SSN...

Hello Friends,

I came to USA on sept 10th 2010 and my H1B Visa expires on 28th Sept 2010 and I-94 on Oct-7th 2010. went to SSN office to apply for SSN on 27th Sept 2010 which is 10 days after my arrival in US. Now SSN office people say they cannot issue me SSN now because my work permit doesn't have 2 weeks time in which they issue an SSN. They had asked me to visit again after my H1 & I-94 is extended.

MyH1B extension approval might come only after few months. Now i am already on a project and would it create problems working without SSN for 2-3 months?

No issues. Your employer can pay salary advance now, and can pay full salary with tax after you get SSN.

Hello sk4ih / Others,

Ok, but will my H1B extension gets approved without pay cheque as i would not have pay cheque without SSN.

I am in deadlock situation where as, H1B extension requires paystubs to be provided for an RFE and paystubs cannot be provided without SSN. I don't have SSN because my H1B extension is not approved and the current H1B document expired.

Not sure whether anyone faced similar experience. Your help appericiated.
