Changing child H4 from wife to husband's H1B while H4 extension is pending.

Hello all, looking for inputs for my scenario.
My H1B, and my son's H4 extension is pending (He is my dependent). My husband has an approved H1B till 2023.
If my son travels along with husband to India , before his pending extension gets approved, can we get him stamped as my husband's dependant without filing a H4 petetion to convert him as my husband's dependent?
