  • Laid off on H1B. Move to H4 and look for jobs?

Hi, I got laid off today from my company. I was working on an H1B visa and have an approved I-140. I think that I'm allowed 60 days to get a new job. If I do not get a job in 60 days, is it possible for me to move to an H4 visa (My wife is also on an H1B) and keep looking for jobs?? But do employers take people who are on H4 visa and process their H1B?? Also, can I apply for the H4 sitting in the US? Do I have to go outside the country and come back or do I do a change of status here? Please help.

I've been in a similar situation. You do have that 60-day grace period to find a new H1B job. If it doesn't work out, switching to H4 is an option, and employers can still sponsor your H1B while you're on H4. It's possible to apply for H4 within the US through a status change; no need to leave the country. Also, you can use this resume builder for more effectiveness. Good luck!
