  • When to ask for sponsorship?

    Hi All,

I always wonder when I should tell the potential employer that I will need H-1B sponsorship:
    1. during the preliminary phone screening with the HR (if any)
    2. during the first interview
    3. during the second interview
    4. during the offer negotiation

    Please reply with your reason.

And how about green card sponsorship? Do you ask for it during the hiring processes above or after you are hired?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Hi OP,

This is a very hypothetical question .
So here is my opinion ( taking into fact that you are already in US):
    (a) If you want H1 sponsorship/H1 Transfer etc with the new employer - then employer should be told before in hand/or in early stages of interviews
    (b) For Green Card Sponsorship - You can ask any time during interview /or after hiring.
In my case-I asked during the interview and because of this it was part of the offer letter -that my GC will be filed in so so months (which my company did because it was on documents/offer)

    Thanks and regards,
    Abhay
