  • Devastated - 5th H1B rejection

Devastated but only option is to move on

Everyone - So this was my 5th attempt and my lottery didn't go through. While my last post about choosing between wife and girlfriend was tongue in cheek humor to abate the frustration and used as a defence mechanism, it is partially true. I'm looking for a life partner but with 1 more attempt left (am doing a PHD - Day 1, don't want to get to the legalities of this), that seems far fetched now. Having spent 7 years in the US and worked hard at my job, it's heartbreaking to see my professional and personal toll.

I'm going to hit the gym and build the body that I wanted in 3 months' time for a start with focus on self improvement. For all those that got selected - congratulations and for those that didn't - lets all be positive, focus on self improvement - hitting the gym, travelling or playing a sport or just enjoying life in general.

Just wanted to put this one out there to say you're not alone.

Rejections can be emotionally draining, especially after putting in so much effort. Staying positive and exploring other career-building tools can help during this phase. For example, taking a gallup test free helps professionals identify their strengths and work on opportunities that align with their abilities, which can open up new paths while waiting for better visa outcomes.

I completely understand how frustrating repeated setbacks can be, and it’s inspiring that you’re focusing on self-improvement despite the challenges. Hitting the gym, pursuing hobbies, traveling, or simply enjoying life in small ways are all great strategies to stay positive and maintain your mental well-being. Along with physical and personal growth, small comforts can really make a difference. For instance, you might want to explore candles to create a calming atmosphere at home. Lighting a soothing candle while relaxing after a workout, reading, or reflecting can help reduce stress and bring a sense of peace. Combining physical activity with these small moments of tranquility can make the journey toward self-improvement more enjoyable and balanced.
