  • Don't you need the original I-797 for your H1B interview?

    Hi all!

"Visa Specialist" with the employer says - "You do not need the original for your interview. However, if you would like for us to send it, please provide a FedEx airbill and we will ship it. We are unable to complete an airbill because of the questions related to customs."

Is this correct? From previous employers, we have always received the I-797 with the instruction "Do not forget to carry to your interview".

    Suggestions?

Consulates can usually verify petition approvals electronically through the PIMS system, it's still a good idea to bring the original I-797 approval notice if possible. Practices vary by consulate so check the specific consulate's document requirements online. If the original I-797 is listed or you're unsure, ask your employer to provide it (create and send a prepaid shipping label to your employer, ensuring customs information is accurate to streamline the process or explore other courier services that might offer simpler customs procedures if needed).

Hope this helps. My response was based on my research, knowledge and external sources like skiplegal.ai
