If they ask for that pay slips, then there is no option other than to accpt that you were out of status. Well, it can create issues based on the vO you meet.

If you were still employed at that time, but the company did not pay you because of lack of work, then you can complain to DOL and make the employer pay. The employer is suppose to pay you when you are working with them irrespective of whether they were able to provide you work or not. Attending the interview with the copy of the complaint to DOL will help.
But if you were either terminated or you have quit the job, then you were out of status and there is nothing much you could do.
