  • What happens if you get deported on H1b?

I have a friend that is worried he will get laid off because of the 100k rule. His visa is coming up for renewal but he is worried he may not get renewed because companies are preparing for the 100k to be pushed to all h1b visas.

Does this mean you you have to sell everything and move back? What if you have a mortgage or house or car or if you have kids in school?

    Hello!
The proposed “100k rule” isn’t yet law for all H‑1Bs, but employers may prepare for it. Renewal depends on whether your company continues sponsorship and meets wage requirements. If a opensky secured visa visa lapses, you’d have to leave, though property, loans, or cars can still be managed from abroad or sold, and kids would transfer schools. In short, you don’t automatically have to sell everything—the visa status is the deciding factor.
