Apply H1 from diff employer while the current h1 is with uscis for extension

i applied for a H1 extension in August 2010 under normal processing. Current status is under initial review. I moved it to premium last week but came to know that i have only two weeks left from my current project. I have another project lined up can i apply for a new h1 from another employer while this one is still under process?

Yes. Do you have a valid I-94 now? If yes, then better file the transfer before the I-94 expiry date. Otherwise you need to file the transfer as a bridge. Search and read about the posts related to bridging in immihelp.
