H1b Activation

Hi All....I am a Registered Nurse,i got a valid H1b visa stamped in the month of Nov 2010 through an " X " company,Newyork. I havent called yet to join them due to shortage in vacancies. I would like to know...is there any possibility to come and stay in US, untill I get an intimation from the current employer to join them. Actually , how long is my H1 visa vallid , if i havent moved to US , is there any ativation period for the visa.

H1B is a work visa. You cannot enter U.S without a valid job in hand even if you have a valid petition and visa. You will be questioned at the POE and deported if they come to know that you are travelling without a job in hand. You will need to carry work related documents when you travel (Like letter from the employer, roles and responsibilities etc.)

Check the validity of the visa in the visa stamp on the passport. Visa will remaion valid until the expiry date specified there.
