A US based consultant is filing for my H1b and in the offer contract, they have laid down a penalty as follows:
COMPANY shall seek compensation from an employee which may include but not limited to lawyer fee, expenses in facilitating employment eligibility
a) In case employee decides not to join them after accepting this offer letter
b) Join and decide to leave them within 12 months of his/her service
c) leave them without serving required notice
My question is that if they are taking my SSN details for making this contract, can I really be bound legally if any of the above conditions are true.
Also, since there is no definitive penalty amount specified here, can they hold me liable for any random amount they wish to?
